Today I learned several new vocabularies from the book called "The Island of Doctor Moreau". This time, I used Highscope newest app, which is Visual Thesaurus, to help me find the definition of each words! This online visual thesaurus is actually very helpful for me!:) So, Im going to share each of the new vocab definition.
Dingey/Dinghy: A small boat of shallow draft with cross thwarts for seats and rowlocks for oars which it is propelled
Privation: A state of extreme poverty:
Thwart: A crosspiece spreading the gunnels of a boat; used as a seat in a rowboat
Schooner: A vessel that is powered by the wind; often having several masts
Gunwale: Wale at the top of the side of boat; topmost planking of a wooden vessel
fore: front part of a vessel
tacking: the act of changing tack
soddened: wet through and through
Okay enough with the vocabularies.. now moving on to the next activity! YEAY! The next activity that I did was reading 1-2 more chapters in the book. I find this book very challenging for me since it uses so many advanced words that I often don't understand, but thats okay, i've got Highscope visual thesaurus;)
Later after finished reading, I answered this question:
How did the narrator and the other three men in the dingey help constans? What does the narrator say its lucky that constans never reached the men in the dingey?
